Advanced Picture News is a weekly news resource created specifically for pupils aged 11-16.

The resources are designed to be thought-provoking, leading to discussions, debates and creative writing. We place a great deal of emphasis on learning from the news (as well as about). Resources are often used during form time, allowing opportunities for pupils to develop confidence in their ideas and beliefs whilst demonstrating respect for the ideas and beliefs of others. What's in a pack?

What else can Picture News do?

  • Exposes pupils to a range of current issues including political, religious, cultural, environmental, social, moral, spiritual.
  • Allows pupils to discover talents and interests through the broad coverage. How can you know you are interested in something if you don’t even know it exists?
  • The news stories are all current meaning pupils can influence and bring about change. Develop resilience. If at first, they do not succeed, develop ideas further, do not give up!
  • Allow pupils to demonstrate respect and tolerance. Pupils can often explain how they should behave or what they should say but what better way to teach respect than if they are discussing something they actually care about?
